The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Marvin B. Haley (ASN: 38881553), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 25 March 1945, in Germany. When a man was wounded by enemy tank fire, he lay in an exposed position subject to further injury. Private First Class Haley left his place of shelter and, although machine gun fire from the tank was covering the entire area, he courageously crawled two hundred yards to the wounded man. He then grasped him beneath the arms and despite unceasing fire, dragged him fifty yards to a sheltered spot. After rendering first aid, he remained with him until a medical aid man arrived. Private First Class Haley’s gallant actions saved the life of his wounded comrade. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Haley, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
