Headquarters, 79th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 88 (May 25, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Charles C. Haeseler (ASN: 33835975), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 March 1945 in Germany. When his headquarters group was halted by the severity of enemy small arms and machine gun fire after crossing the Daige River, Private Haeseler volunteered to contact friendly troops in an effort to obtain relief from the enemy pressure and release from their perilous position. Despite the devastating enemy fire, he crawled forward over open terrain within a few yards of the enemy until friendly forces were reached. His courageous act enabled the placing of effective fire on the enemy positions, eliminating the resistance and allowing his group to rejoin the company without a casualty. The bravery and determination displayed by Private Haeseler reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
