The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Jack C. Haberstick, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 44th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Woelfling, France, on 6 January 1945. When an enemy machine-gun nest opened fire on his platoon which was leading an attack on Bellevue Farm, Lieutenant Haberstick crept to within fifteen yards of the flank of the enemy gun and wiped out the position and crew with hand grenades. This daring action permitted his platoon to continue its advance and reflects great credit on Lieutenant Haberstick and the military service.
