The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Harold H. Gullickson, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a tank destroyer operator of the 6th Armored Division, in action in France on 1 October 1944. When his vehicle was knocked out from under him, Sergeant Gullickson led his security section forward on foot, locating and eliminating two bazooka teams and driving the enemy infantry back. While still dismounted he went to the aid of two wounded men, administered first aid and assisted in immediately evacuating them and undoubtedly saved their lives. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
