The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Edward G. Guidziejko (ASN: 32923085), United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with Company F, 411th Infantry Regiment, 103d Infantry Division. On 15 March 1945 near Offwiller, France, when his patrol was ambushed by the enemy, Sergeant Guidziejko withdrew his men, organized them and then led them in a counterattack. Despite machine gun and mortar fire he continued the attack killing four and wounding seven and forcing the remainder of the enemy to flee. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
