The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Alfred O. Guimond (ASN: 31248894), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 15 April 1945, in Germany. When enemy aircraft attacked their battery’s position, Corporal Guimond and a comrade concentrated fire on them to keep them from coming low enough to strafe. One of the bombs from the plane struck the site of their gun position, killing Corporal Guimond and wounding his comrade. Corporal Guimond’s gallantry and self-sacrifice will remain an inspiration to his comrades and were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
