Headquarters, 5th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 60 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Field Artillery) Harry J. Grusin, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Liaison Officer with the 50th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, in Luxembourg during World War II. Captain Grusin exposed himself for 12 hours to direct artillery fire and to conceal American forces with a smoke screen during the crossing of the Sauer River. Captain Grusin’s actions reduced the small arms and artillery fire on his troops and greatly aided the crossing of the strongly held river. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
