(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) William P. Gruensfelder, United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action as a member of the 1st Armored Division, in action against the enemy during World War II. Lieutenant Gruensfelder occupied a forward observation post only 500 yards from the enemy position. He remained in this exposed position all day and night although subjected to almost continuous enemy fire. Just before dawn he hear enemy preparations for an attack. He speedily adjusted fire on the area, covering it thoroughly. This accurate delivery of fire stopped the attack before it got started. The alertness, courage, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Gruensfelder are a credit to the military service and himself, and are deserving of the highest praise.
