(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Kingdon J. Gould, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Troop C, 36th Squadron, 84th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in the vicinity of the Roer River on the night of 16 – 17 January 1945. Sergeant Gould was a member of a volunteer patrol of Troop C that crossed over the Roer River and assaulted a strongly defended troop shelter, captured a prisoner; and after blowing up the shelter, successfully returned with the prisoner in face of heavy enemy fire. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Gould, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
