    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Mylous T. Golson (ASN: 0-1169130), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 118th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 7 July 1944 to 29 July 1944, in France. First Lieutenant Golson was assigned as forward observer on duty with infantry assault elements during a sustained attack against the enemy. His initiative, as evidenced by his aggressiveness in locating artillery targets, contributed immeasurably to the success of the mission. He continuously exposed himself to heavy enemy fire to accomplish his duties. On 29 July 1944, First Lieutenant Golson as painfully wounded by hostile fire. Disregarding his grievous wound, he refused to be evacuated due to the urgent need for artillery support by his comrades. He remained at his post until ordered to permit himself to be evacuated. The aggressiveness, spirit of self-sacrifice, composure under duress, and high degree of personal courage exhibited by First Lieutenant Golson reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
