The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Morris W. Goldstein (ASN: 33615359), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 104th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany on 18 April 1945. Moving forward in the attack with the leading assault units, Sergeant Goldstein voluntarily manned an outpost as his squad maneuvered into position on the flank of the company. As the assault progressed, the need for machine gun ammunition became great. Sergeant Goldstein voluntarily crosses 1,000 yards of open fire-swept terrain in the face of a hail of enemy fire to procure the ammunition. He completed two trips across the treacherous route and was fatally wounded by enemy shell fire. The gallantry and superb devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Goldstein exemplify the finest traditions of the American combat soldier.
