The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Medical Administrative Corps) William F. Glaze (ASN: 0-1998689), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Officer with the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 February 1945 in Germany. As an assault platoon attacked into a town it suffered six casualties from an enemy anti-personnel mine field and two other men were wounded in an attempt to rescue those already injured. Despite sporadic artillery and mortar fire and the fact that the extent of the mine field was unknown, Lieutenant Glaze led a little team into the area and was successful in evacuating all of the wounded men without any further casualties. The great courage and devotion to the welfare of his fellow soldiers displayed by Lieutenant Glaze reflect highest credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
