The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class George C. Gary (ASN: 35541749), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Medical Detachment, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 January 1945, in Belgium. When one of his comrades had been wounded and was lying in an exposed position close to enemy lines, Private First Class Gary voluntarily risked his life to run thirty-five yards to the wounded man. Despite the heavy fire and though seriously wounded himself during this mission, Private First Class Gary succeeded in administering first aid to his comrade. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Gary, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
