The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Frank D. Galbraith (ASN: 33340732), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 197th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 28 December 1944, in Germany. Private First Class Galbraith was a member of a forward observer party on the mission of establishing an observation post. It was believed that at a certain point good observation could be obtained but enemy patrols were known to pass frequently through that area and in order to reach it, it was necessary to cross a mind field. Despite these hazards, Private First Class Galbraith successfully crossed the mine field and reached the area. Through his courage and devotion to duty a suitable observation post was established, which enabled artillery fire to be directed against the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Galbraith, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
