The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Paul C. Gage, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 27th Armored Infantry Battalion, 9th Armored Division, in action against the enemy in Luxembourg, on 17 December 1944. Repeatedly during extremely heavy artillery and small arms barrages, Private First Class Gage, with complete disregard for his own personal safety deliberately crawled in positions where wounded men had fallen, and though exposed to the withering enemy fire, he carried the men back to the first aid station. Private First Class Gage continued his gallant action until he himself fell wounded in enemy-held territory. The heroism and loyalty displayed by Private First Class Gage are in keeping with traditions of the military service.
