Headquarters, 79th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 73 (May 10, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Juan A. Frankin (ASN: 42059255), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving in the Medical Detachment, 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 12 January 1945 in France. Upon hearing that the aid men of an adjacent unit had become casualties and that the unit had withdrawn in the face of heavy enemy fire leaving men wounded behind, Technician Fourth Grade Frankin, after establishing the fact that he was not needed by his own unit, voluntarily went into the orchard to treat the wounded. Disregarding enemy fire he administered first aid and assisted in evacuating nine wounded men. The courage and devotion to duty displayed by Technician Fourth Grade Frankin reflect great credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
