The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain (Infantry) Warren L. Fox (ASN: 0-1293574), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 August 1944, in France. Captain Fox was serving as a company commander with an Infantry Regiment engaged in an attack on the enemy. Some tanks had been assigned to his company for supporting the offensive, and Captain Fox was riding in one of them when increasing enemy pressure caused the impetus of his company’s attack to bog down. Immediately, Captain Fox dismounted from the tank and went forward to lead his men through the heavy enemy fire. Although he lost his life during the operation, his company was inspired by his gallantry and surged forward to their objective. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Fox, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
