The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Wilson Fosdick (ASN: 0-2000525), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment, 2d Armored Division, in action against the enemy in France, on 9 August 1944. Under a great concentration of enemy fire which wounded the battalion surgeon and knocked out the aid station, Sergeant Fosdick disregarded personal safety and immediately reorganized the station personnel. As a result, all the wounded were treated and evacuated despite the continued artillery shelling of the area. Sergeant Fosedick’s devotion to duty and outstanding ability resulted in the prompt treatment and evacuation of the wounded, which contributed materially to the saving of many lives. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Fosdick, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
