The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Second Lieutenant] David L. Foresman (ASN: 0-548710), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 24 March 1945, in Germany. When his platoon was pinned down by intense machine gun fire and its position was illuminated by a burning haystack, First Lieutenant Foresman gallantly moved through the enemy fire and silenced their position. He then personally led a bazooka team in knocking out another machine gun and later supervised the establishment of a roadblock. By his great heroism, First Lieutenant Foresman led his platoon in taking its objectives with a minimum of casualties. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Foresman, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
