The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Theodore V. Foote (ASN: 0-533433), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 2 October 1944, in Germany. Second Lieutenant Foote distinguished himself during an assault upon the Siegfried Line, when he led his platoon against heavy enemy fire to neutralize several hostile pillboxes. Although he was wounded early in the action, he remained with his platoon until their objective had been taken, and immediately after he had his wounds dressed at the aid station he insisted on going back to organize the platoon in defensive positions before nightfall. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Second Lieutenant Foote, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
