The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Warrant Officer, Junior Grade Hubert A. Flummerfelt (ASN: W-2111332), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 50th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 and 9 February 1945, near Echternach, Luxembourg. When a battalion of our forces was isolated during a fierce engagement with strongly resisting enemy forces and in dire need of vital ammunition, food, and medical supplies, Warrant Officer Flummerfelt, an artillery observer, without hesitation undertook the hazardous mission of supplying the isolated element with their essentials needs by air. Despite the great danger from intense antiaircraft fire and with shrapnel bursting all about him, Warrant Officer Flummerfelt made repeated trips at low altitude to effect re-supply of the isolated unit. His utter disregard for personal welfare, indomitable courage and unswerving devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the armed forces.
