The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Private First Class] Arthur W. Fleischmann (ASN: 12204978), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 27 March 1945, in Germany. Although wounded, Sergeant Fleischmann courageously crossed 500 yards of open terrain which was subject to intermittent artillery fire, and guided a unit of tanks and tank-destroyers forward so that they could support his company’s attack. Shortly thereafter, he traversed the same area again to lead litter-bearers forward to evacuate several wounded men. His gallant actions reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
