The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Marion E. Fink (ASN: 34360047), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 July 1944, in France. While serving as a section leader with a heavy weapons platoon giving support to the attack of an infantry Company, Sergeant Fink and his comrades were subjected to very intense enemy artillery fire, which caused a number of casualties. Without though of himself, Sergeant Fink left his sheltered position and moved out onto the battlefield where he evacuated four wounded men to safety. During the action, Sergeant Fink made four trips, each one at the risk of his life. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Fink, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
