    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class [then Private Gerald R. Felson (ASN: 32652597), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with Company L, *** Infantry Regiment, 87th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near ff******, France, on ** December 1944. On the morning of ** December 1944, Company L had arrived at its objective, and had been subjected to heavy artillery fire which resulted in many casualties. With no thought to his personal safety Private First Class Felson crawled over terrain exposed to enemy fire, administering first aid to one wounded man after another. On many occasions he carried wounded men to positions affording greater security. Noticing a building about 200 yards to the left of the company, Private First Class Felson, with the help of others, carried all the wounded from the field into the building and with supplies taken from a wrecked medical supply truck nearby, without rest, tended to them throughout the night. The following day he continued to exert all his efforts to assist his unit in the continuation of the attack. Private First Class Felson’s inspiring leadership, outstanding heroism, and supreme devotion to duty, as a result of which the lives of many comrades were saved, exemplify he highest traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
