Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 194 (July 18, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Roland J. Fauteaux (ASN: 31232610), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 October 1944, in Germany. During an attack Staff Sergeant Fauteaux volunteered to go forward and serve as the forward observer. During his advance he was subject to sniper, tank, and artillery fire, but continued on because he realized the importance of reestablishing contact with the rifle company since the observer had been wounded, Staff Sergeant Fauteaux’s courage and his skill in placing fire on the enemy reflect a great credit on him and the Armed Forces.
