The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Kenneth M. Farmer (ASN: 34198609), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 30 July 1944, in France. When the platoon of which Technical Sergeant Farmer was a squad leader was subjected to heavy enemy mortar, artillery, and small arms fire, they continued pushing forward and were able to advance to a favorable position when their ammunition supply became low. Technical Sergeant Farmer voluntarily made five trips back to the ammunition dump to replenish the supply of ammunition for his men. During these trips back to the ammunition dump he was under very heavy mortar and artillery fire, covered only by the small arms fire of his platoon. By this courageous act, the platoon’s ammunition was replenished and they were able to force the withdrawal of the enemy. The loyal devotion to duty and courage shown by Technical Sergeant Farmer reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
