Headquarters, 34th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 125 (August 12, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class William A. Faivre (ASN: 31415834), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company K, 133d Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, in action on 24 April 1945, in Italy. While acting as first scout for his squad which was advancing into the outskirts of an enemy-held town, Private First Class Faivre located an enemy strong point. Acting with speed and determination, he opened fire on the enemy with his rifle, preventing them from bringing accurate fire on his platoon. After a short fire-fight the enemy position was destroyed with the aid of a supporting tank. Continuing his aggressive advance, Private First Class Faivre saw a group of Germans enter a large building. Showing complete disregard for his own safety, Private First Class Faivre rushed across the intervening space, firing his rifle at the windows of the building. He then burst into the building and captured six enemy soldiers. Private First Class Faivre’s daring action was instrumental in destroying the enemy strong-point and capturing six of the enemy and reflects great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
