The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Ivan B. Fagre, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company G, 2d Battalion, 410th Infantry Regiment, 103d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in Germany. On 21 – 22 April 1945, when Company G was isolated in Erkenbretchswiller, Germany, Private Fagre volunteered to deliver messages to all of the platoons. Although continuously exposed to small arms, mortar, rocket and artillery fire he carried messages from one end of the town to the other. While leading an aid man to an isolated squad, he was confronted by three enemy soldiers, and although seriously wounded himself in the ensuing fire fight, he killed two of the enemy and wounded the third. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private Fagre, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
