(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant Roy Enlow (ASN: 3921892), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 362d Infantry Regiment, 91st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Palasina, Italy, on 23 April 1945. The platoon in which Staff Sergeant Enlow was serving was part of a task force operating with attached tanks and tank destroyers at a time when a large force of the enemy was encountered. While other men jumped from the tanks to engage the enemy in a bitter fight, Staff Sergeant Enlow climbed on top of a tank, in full view of the enemy, in order to obtain the best possible observation of enemy positions several hundred yards on the right flank. In this manner he directed the fire of his squad so effectively that it slowly began to penetrate and break up the enemy formation. He was shot at many times, but never wavered in his determination to direct the fire. Fragments from an exploding shell, fired directly at Staff Sergeant Enlow, fatally wounded him. Through the bravery and courageous action of Staff Sergeant Enlow, 200 Germans were captured and the casualties of his own company were minimized. Staff Sergeant Enlow, in making the supreme sacrifice, exemplified the highest ideals of the Infantry and the Army of the United States.
