Stanley Wolenski was one of eight members of the air crew of a B-26 piloted by Marvin Hughes, that was reported missing in action following a mission over Rabaul, New Guinea in May 1942. All eight members of the crew were awarded the Silver Star. Wolenski was one of two men who died in the ditching. Two of his comrades evaded the enemy and returned to duty. Four were captured by the Japanese and held as prisoners of war, two of whom were executed in captivity.
