(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Keith Wayne Zuegel, United States Air Force, for gallantry in action against an opposing armed force while serving as the Weapons System Officer of an F-111 aircraft, in action on 17 January 1991, in support of Operation DESERT STORM, near Ali Al Salem Airfield, Kuwait. On the first night of the war, when heavy Iraqi defensive fire forced half the attack force to turn back, he continued to attack a hardened aircraft shelter. His aircraft avoided a total of three surface-to-air missiles and scored a direct hit on the enemy shelter. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Zuegel has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
