Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 128 (December 19, 1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Sergeant Isidore Eisenberg (ASN: 42061268), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 18 November 1944, in Germany. In order to knock out a machine gun position which was holding up the advance of our troops, it was decided to move a tank into position to fire upon the enemy nest. To do so, a roadway had to be cleared of enemy mines. Although he realized that he would be exposed to the machine gun fire and was warned by his superiors of the danger involved, Sergeant Eisenberg stepped out into the middle of the street, in direct view of the enemy gunner and removed one of the mines. He then went out into the street a second time and removed another mine, thus clearing the road for the tank to pass and knock out the enemy gun. This gallant and courageous act enabled an important attack to be continued against the enemy. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant Eisenberg, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
