The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Thomas G. Edwards, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as Commanding Officer of an Infantry Company of the 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in France, in 1944. Although wounded, Captain Edwards refused to allow himself to be evacuated, butt continued to exercise his command until contact could be established with his battalion and his superiors advised of the situation. The outstanding leadership and bravery exhibited by Captain Edwards reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
