The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Ernest E. Edelhouser (ASN: 38222433), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 118th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 April 1945, in Germany. During a rapid advance, the force with which Technician Fifth Grade Edelhouser was serving as assistant to the liaison sergeant was subjected to heavy enemy fire. The supporting tanks were forced to withdraw and the initial attempt of the infantry to eliminate the resistance as repulsed. Technician Fifth Grade Edelhouser with a comrade carried a radio to a position fifty yards from the enemy positions and, despite constant machine gun and small arms fire, they established an observation post and transmitted fire commands to the battalion which brought artillery fire on the enemy, neutralizing the resistance. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Technician Fifth Grade Edelhouser, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
