    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Private First Class Edward A. Durmire (ASN: 34306883), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 July 1944 in France. Private Durmire aided in the evacuation of a wounded soldier by voluntarily crossing two hundred yards of open ground under heavy enemy small arms and mortar fire. Without regard for his own safety he aided in carrying the wounded man another three hundred yards until he reached the aid station. For his personal courage and his unflinching devotion to duty Private Durmire reflects highest credit on himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
