The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Staff Sergeant Samuel A. Dorshow (ASN: 17047806), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the *** Field Artillery Battalion, 83d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 29 July 1944, near ****, France. Staff Sergeant Dorshow, while acting as artillery forward observer with an infantry battalion, crawled to a house 75 yards in front of the forward lines and established an observation post. Despite fierce enemy small arms, mortar and artillery fire, he remained in an exposed position and directed destructive artillery fire upon the enemy. His conspicuous aggressiveness and personal bravery reflects great credit upon himself and the finest traditions of the military service.
