    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Walter P. Dorovich, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Medical Aidman with Headquarters, 1st Battalion, *** Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in October 1943 in Italy. While acting as liaison agent for his organization, Private First Class Dorovich crossed the ***** River during the attack and the establishment of beachheads in the early morning hours of ** October 1943. Having only medical kits with him he left the headquarters to administer first aid to casualties lying in unmarked mined areas which were under constant artillery and small arms fire. After his supply of first aid equipment was depleted, he returned to headquarters and continued with them on the advance. As soon s the headquarters was established, he returned for litter squads through the mined areas, treating additional casualties and supervising evacuation of them to the rear. The courage and devotion to duty of Private First Class Dorovich was outstanding and a credit to the Armed Forces of the United States.
