The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Charles Dorfman (ASN: 33340621), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division on 11 July 1944, in France. Private Dorfman was assigned to duty with an infantry organization and was serving in the capacity of ammunition bearer for an anti-tank gun. The organization was surprised with a strong enemy counterattack, spearheaded with several tanks. With complete disregard for his personal safety, Private Dorfman immediately led the shelter of his foxhole and carried ammunition until there was a sufficient amount beside the anti-tank gun. Then he voluntarily took a bazooka and advanced toward the tanks in order to deliver an effective fire on the hostile machines. As a result of this action, the counterattack was broken up, and Private Dorfman is responsible for the destruction of at least one enemy tank. The personal courage and aggressive initiative displayed by Private Dorfman reflect great credit on himself and the Armed Forces.
