The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Mike E. Dimas (ASN: 39259566), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 8 August 1944, in France. During a bitter fight resulting from a determined enemy who had launched a sustained counteroffensive designed to reach the sea and divide American forces in France, the infantry headquarters with which First Sergeant Dimas was serving was suddenly subjected to heavy enemy artillery fire. Cries of the wounded could be hear above the bedlam of exploding shells. With complete disregard for his personal safety, First Sergeant Dimas left the security of his covered shelter and ran to assist the wounded, working assiduously despite the falling shells. As a result of his heroic endeavors, many lives of his fellow soldiers were saved. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Sergeant Dimas, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
