The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Delmer C. Dilsaver (ASN: 20511877), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 6th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Agat, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 30 January 1945. The Infantry company of which Private Dilsaver is a member was given the mission of destroying enemy emplacements which were delaying our advance. Private First Class Dilsaver, who was in the leading platoon, volunteered to accompany his platoon leader and one other man in an assault against enemy positions. Advancing by leaps and bounds, they reached a point from which they could fire upon the enemy. Private First Class Dilsaver turned and intense volume of fire from his automatic rifle upon the emplacements which, together with rifle grenade fire, silenced the enemy weapons by killing their crews. His courageous act helped to make it possible for our troops to advance without sustaining casualties. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Dilsaver, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
