The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Technical Sergeant Daniel F. Deojay (ASN: 36575908), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 7 July 1944 in France. Sergeant Deojay crawled under intensive enemy fire from eight machine guns emplaced in concealed positions in order to evacuate two wounded scouts. He succeeded in removing the wounded men by carrying them, one at a time, on this back and crawling a distance of one hundred years, all the while under fire. During this action he sustained a wound on his right hand but refused medical assistance until a lull in the fighting occurred. For tenacity, dauntless courage and vigilant devotion to duty Sergeant Deojay reflects highest credit on himself and the armed forces of the United States.
