The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Technician Fifth Grade Walter L. Snow (ASN: 15054414), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 714th Tank Battalion, 12th Armored Division in action with the SEVENTH Army on 10 January 1945, in France. During the attack, Technician Fifth Grade Snow left his tank and, with two other men, entered the town with advanced units of the attacking forces. With utter disregard for his personal safety and life, he evacuated wounded of an armored infantry battalion across 1,000 yards of open terrain, which was constantly under constantly heavy mortar, artillery and sniper fire. he made three such trips. On the evening of 10 January, while attempting to remove wounded from the town, his tank was hit by anti-tank fire and Technician Fifth Grade Snow lost his life. During the entire operation he demonstrated great courage and devotion to duty, and his lack of regard for his personal safety merits the highest praise.
