The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Louis DeChristopher (ASN: 31288398), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 3 April 1945, in Germany. When an enemy tank threatened the advance and security of his comrades, Private First Class DeChristopher crawled to within twenty yards of the tank. Disregarding his personal safety, he fired a German panzerfaust at the tank, hitting it squarely in the turret, and putting it out of action. He then killed two of the enemy and succeeded in capturing two others. Private First Class DeChristopher’s intrepid stand in the face of overwhelming odds reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
