Headquarters, 3d Armored Division, General Orders No. 46 (1944)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Dodd C. DeCamp (ASN: 16061448), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 32d Armored Regiment, 3d Armored Division, in action against the enemy in France on 1 July 1944. On two occasions Private DeCamp, a rifleman, secured a rocket launcher and left the security of his position to vigorously and fearlessly seek enemy tanks reported approaching his unit. He also volunteered to accompany an unarmored vehicle which he knew intended to penetrated 80 miles into enemy territory, In this attack, by his unerring marksmanship, he prevented the escape of an enemy motorcyclist who attempted to warn his unit of the approaching attack. Private DeCamp’s personal bravery, loyalty, and complete devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and is in keeping with the highest traditions of the armed forces.
