The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fifth Grade Charles E. Daniels (ASN: 32477327), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 24th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Mintal, Mindanao, Philippine Islands, on 7 June 1945. Technician Fifth Grade Daniels was a member of a battalion aid station during an attack on a large enemy concentration. The enemy pinned down the leading company with savagely accurate automatic and mortar fire and caused many casualties, on of whom was the company commander. When the call for aid men and litter bearers was received, Technician Fifth Grade Daniels immediately moved forward with a litter team to give first aid. With utter disregard for his personal safety, Technician Fifth Grade Daniels crossed a road covered with enemy machine gun fire four times, giving aid to the four wounded men and affecting their evacuation. Technician Fifth Grade Daniels was later wounded by enemy fire when going to the aid of another wounded man. By his heroism, he contributed greatly to saving the lives of the inured and was an inspiration to all. Technician Fifth Grade Daniels actions reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
