The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Oscar D. Dalton, Jr. (ASN: 0-1293018), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 2 April 1945 to 3 April 1945, in Germany. When a savage enemy counterattack threatened to cut off two platoons of his company, Captain Dalton, paying no heed to the heavy fire, gallantly moved to the platoons and reorganized them. Closely supervising their defense, he gave them such confidence that the counterattack was haled and the enemy forced to withdraw. By his great heroism, Captain Dalton prevented a breakthrough on his company front. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Captain Dalton, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
