Headquarters, 30th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 207 (October 31, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Patrick K. Curran (ASN: 33708146), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 9 August 1944, in France. During a strong enemy counterattack Private First Class Curran observed one of his comrades wounded. Realizing that the man, whose leg had been severely torn, was unable to move, he immediately left his sheltered position and went forward to assist him. Enemy fire forced Private First Class Curran to the ground but he courageously continued forward until he reached his comrade. Picking up the wounded man he made his way through the continuing fire to a partially covered position where he administered first aid. Private First Class Curran then continued with his wounded comrade, carrying him to the aid station where prompt surgical attention was available. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Private First Class Curran, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
