The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Joseph M. Fuller (ASN: 1253725), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Battery D, 109th Field Artillery, 28th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Apremont, France, 4 October 1918. Sergeant Fuller left an observation post to aid in the rescue of an officer who had fallen in a field swept by artillery and machine-gun fire. After administering first-aid, he carried the officer to a place of safety, his prompt action saving the officer’s life.
