The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Charles Dilatush Corwin, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in France, on 25 June 1944. During the attack on *****, France, Second Lieutenant Corwin’s platoon was held fast by enemy fire. To relieve his platoon, Second Lieutenant Corwin advanced toward the enemy strong point through heavy machine gun fire and hand grenades. He successfully drew the enemy fire and permitted his platoon to take up the attack from new positions, and in so doing he was fatally wounded. His courage, leadership, and self-sacrifice reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
