The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Staff Sergeant John Leslie Corn (ASN: 37110562), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 230th Field Artillery Battalion, 30th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy from 6 August 1944 to 12 August 1944, in France. Staff Sergeant Corn was assigned to duty with the forward observer section of a field artillery unit giving supporting artillery fire to an attacking infantry force. Despite heavy hostile fire, Staff Sergeant Corn continued at his hazardous post, performing his duties in a superior manner, until he was wounded. Despite the gravity of his wounds, he maintained an aggressive interest in the military situation until his death. The personal bravery, fortitude, and determined devotion to duty exhibited by Staff Sergeant Cork reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Armed Forces.
